Mary Louise Howell

Mary Louise Howell (nee Herring) passed from this life on the 7th of November 2023, after a sudden illness. She was 83 years old. “Mary Louise” to family, friends, and all who knew her, she was born in Baltimore City, Maryland on the 5th of March 1940; the first child of the late John Joseph Herring, Jr. and Mary Agnes Murphy. She was also preceded in death by one of her brothers; John Joseph Herring III, her beloved husband of 56 years, Gordon James Howell, Sr., and a granddaughter, Brittany Ann Howell. She is survived by a brother, Paul J. Wickless, Jr. She is also survived by her sons and daughters: Anita L. Boris (Edward), Gordon J. Howell, Jr. (Diane), Mark E. Howell (Jennifer), and Julie A. Sandford (Michael). Mary Louise was a beloved Grandmom to Kristina Howell, Rachael Cornell (Steven), Armando Willem, Jessica Sandford (Kevin), Matthew Sandford (Lisa), Breiann Ransom (Anthony), Tyler Howell, Dylan Howell (Dana), Timothy Boris and Devon Howell. She was a loving great-grandmother (“GiGi”) to Kaycee and Emma Howell, Benjamin Sandford, Adam Morgan, Patrick Sandford, Jack Morgan, Clara Ransom, Layla Cichon, Raelyn Ransom, and Kamryn, Alexis and Zoey Cornell. Mary Louise was educated in the Baltimore City Catholic School system. She graduated from Saint James Business School in 1954; working in an office briefly before marrying her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Gordon (aka “Bubbie”). Mary Louise was a traditional homemaker; staying home until the youngest of her kids were elementary-school age. She worked at the local McDonald’s part-time, then worked at Toys R Us. She left Toys R Us and began working for St. Joseph Hospital in the Billing Department, retiring with 20+ years of service. She enjoyed traveling (especially to visit family),and went on multiple trips and cruises over the years. She was especially fond of Ocean City; where she made many good memories with Bubbie, her brother John, and her cousins from Philly. She will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends may call the Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral and Cremation Services, 8521 Loch Raven Blvd. (beltway exit 29B) on Sunday, November 26th from 3 to 7p.m. All are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Monday, November 27th at 9a.m. Interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
